The Horton Street pop-up shop raises awareness of the group's future plans and showcases the evolution of surfing.
The pop-up shop is a step on the road to a dedicated surfing history museum in Port Macquarie to celebrate the surfing culture and the significant people and milestones throughout the surfing eras.
Port Macquarie Surfing History Association's vice-president and secretary Glenn Dick said the support for the pop-up shop had been absolutely fantastic.
"We couldn't have asked for a better location and start to the surfing museum project," he said.
"We are the new kids on the block in terms of a museum but we are now being considered a very important tourist attraction."
French tourists Benjamin Bremond and Lelia Leclerc, who are making their way south from Noosa Heads while surfing along the way, visited the pop-up shop on Tuesday, January 7.
"We are like young kids to discover how surfing began," Mr Bremond said.
He said it was a good feeling to look through the displays.
"The more we can surf, the more we are happy," Mr Bremond said.
Surfing history museum supporters continue to focus on the project's long-term goals.
Mr Dick said they were confident about the future due to the community response.
"The [pop-up shop] visitation level has been consistent to show there is a need for such a museum to eventuate," he said.
"This has been a real test of what we expect in the future."
Port Macquarie Surfing History Association is in discussions with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council about a permanent museum site.
Meanwhile, Port Macquarie Surfing History Association is again preparing to take part in Australia Day celebrations with two marquees on the Town Green to raise awareness about the project.
"We are looking forward to presenting our case to the public," Mr Dick said.
