A meerkat has been stolen from Billabong Zoo in Port Macquarie during a break-in over the weekend.

The break-in allegedly occurred between 5.30pm on Sunday, January 5 and 8am on Monday, January 6, according to NSW Police.
"An unknown number of offenders have gained entry to the location and stolen a meerkat," said a NSW Police spokesperson.
"The meerkat has since been returned and inquiries are continuing."
Billabong Zoo staff posted a video on social media at 10am on Monday morning calling for the safe return of the meerkat called 'Kito'.
Kito will now undergo a health assessment by Billabong staff.
