The project brought together contributions from Forestry Corporation of NSW (logs for masts and spars), Hayden Timbers (bloodwood timber for the picnic setting), Mid North Coast Maritime Museum boatbuilders - Hibbard (equipment, expertise and labour) and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council (Community Grant funds).
Supporters gathered to mark the shelter's official opening on Wednesday, December 18.
Friends of Mrs York's Garden president Di Davison said it was just amazing to have a second shelter.
She said the shelter drew on the area's history.
The two timber shelters, which are modelled on ships, bring the history of the shipping and timber industries to the fore at the garden's headland site overlooking the Hastings River mouth.
The first shelter, which opened in 2016, has proven popular.
Mrs Davison said the additional shelter allowed the community to have another beautiful vantage place to enjoy, while also bringing more people back to the garden.
Deputy mayor Lisa Intemann said it was an absolute delight for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to partner with organisations through the Community Grants program to enable projects such as the new shelter to get off the ground.
Friends of Mrs York's Garden volunteers are continuing to restore the headland garden which is again attracting visitors to enjoy the space.
