2019 school dux Theo Last earned an ATAR of 99.25.
He was largely unsurprised with the result after producing one of the highest mathematics extension one results across the state and topping the Lismore Diocese in chemistry.
"I got 94 in chemistry, 95 in physics, 91 in English advanced, 98 in extension one mathematics, 83 in extension two mathematics and 47 out of 50 in Studies of Religion," he said.
"It's all thanks to a little bit of luck and lot of hard work on the part of us, our teachers, our families and our friends.
"Medicine is a career that really appeals to me (after graduating) because I think it's both intellectually challenging but everyday you can also see the tangible effects what you're doing. I think that's the key to a great career."
Study mates Lachlan Johns and James Robertson also praised the hard work of teachers and students to achieve their results. The pair have applied to study medicine after receiving ATAR scores of 97 and 95.45 respectively.
"I think I really like the different pathways you can choose with medicine and all the different opportunities you can get with it," said Lachlan.
"It's challenging in the way it solves problems but it's an enjoyable way of problem solving," said James.
"It just shows having good supportive friends and teachers, and just putting in plain hard work will get you there."
MacKillop College student Corey Baker earned an ATAR of 97.8, Ellie Townsend 97.4, Mitch Evans 95, Max Milligan 93.7 and Tara Dingle 95.7.
