The Port Macquarie school was participating in the national simultaneous dance called Bust the Dust with the hopes of dancing up a drought-ending storm.

The idea was the brainchild of a class of Year 5/6 students at St John's Parish School in Trangie.

St John's teacher Emma Wilson said her students were inspired to create the dance and send the idea national after learning about the drought during poetry class.

From reading My Country by Dorothea Mackellar and Drought by Jackie French, the students then listened to Raindance by Sara Storer.

The song led to the students deciding to create their own rain dance.

"It just shows how 19 kids can make a difference," Ms Wilson said.

"Instead of raising money they wanted to raise spirits."

Stage two leader of learning at St Joseph's Primary School in Port Macquarie Elise Howard said students were "super excited" to be part of the national event.

"We feel it is really important for the kids to have understanding and empathy for everybody else," she said.

"We are all in this together.

"We have lots of farming families in our school who are affected by the drought too and we just want to share a bit of love."

Students wore there best boot scootin outfit as they danced to a range from country music classics.
