An investigation has been launched after two Essential Energy staff members were seriously injured in a switchboard explosion on Monday, December 9.

A spokesperson from the company said crews responded to a fault on the network at 5.50am which impacted over 2000 customers.
"As crews attempted to switch power to restore supply, a serious incident occurred injuring two Essential Energy employees," she said.
A spokesperson from NSW Ambulance said emergency services were called to Panthers Port Macquarie at about 7.30am.
The two Essential Energy crew members were transported to Port Macquarie Base Hospital, with one employee subsequently flown to Sydney for further treatment.
Essential Energy has postponed all planned work to take place on the network throughout the Port Macquarie area on Tuesday, December 10.
"The circumstances of this incident are being thoroughly reviewed and as a precautionary measure Essential Energy has implemented temporary restrictions on some switching practices," the company spokesperson said.
"This action may result in some customers experiencing longer planned/unplanned power outages, however the safety of our employees and the public remains our priority.
"Essential Energy is cooperating with regulatory authorities as investigations are undertaken."
The Essential Energy spokesperson said the company will remain in touch with both employees and their families.
"We will continue to support them throughout this period," she said.
"On the ground support is being provided to the employee's colleagues in Port Macquarie."
Power was restored to all customers across Port Macquarie by 6.30pm on Monday, December 9.
