The marathon course is usually run from the McInherney Park clubhouse, down river to Town Green and then upstream to the Dennis Bridge and back to the clubhouse.
The race started on the turning tide with a very light south westerly breeze and a sprinkling of welcome rain.
Conditions did not improve as the fleet made its way to Town Green and the upstream leg of the course was shortened to just past the clubhouse.
The yardstick winner was Roger Shipton in Zazoo.
Within a minute were Terry Howard in Ratz and Paul Robertson & Jack Corthals in Flembouyant for second and third.
Martina Holt in Spellbound was next in, followed by Jane Cooper in Impetuous, Steve & Lucy Bohlsen in Interceptor, Frank O'Rourke on Dino, Rob Barwick on Drift and Simon & Elsa Gandy.
Bridgette Taylor followed in Voyager, then Grady & Alice McNee on Zax, Stuart Symons & Liam Halmi in Elmo and Dave Winter on Spica.
Baerin, Oliver & Drake Houghton in Puffin sailed a shorter course due to conditions.
December 6 marks the 60th anniversary of the Port Macquarie Sailing Club racing on the Hastings river with membership still going strong and longer term members welcoming and helping out new sailors.
Next Sunday is the next stage of the sprint series with a midday start.
No one is rostered on duty at this stage.
