Andrew Wilkie on Monday introduced the draft legislation to parliament, pointing out there were 324 ships that left Australia last year carrying two million beef cattle and sheep.
"There's a desperate need for this country to shut down the vile animal export industry. It is an industry that is systemically cruel - it is clearly not in this nation's economic self-interest," the Tasmanian MP told the chamber.
