They called out to the community through Facebook and were astounded by the generous response. Shane and his friends rolled in to Wauchope Showground last night (Sunday) with trucks full of donated feed and hay for the fire victims.

"So many people, from all over Australia, got behind us and donated," said Shane.

"Everyone jumped on board and it's been awesome. We got hay, chaff, horse pellets, dog food, apple pulp, vet wrap and fuel. Koo Ree Rup Produce and Pet Stock Supllied donated too."

When the team arrived at Wauchope Showground, they were treated to a slap-up meal and the gratitude of many.

"It's a fantastic effort," said Neil Coombes, president of Wauchope Show Society.

"You don't believe it until it happens. There's a B-double and then a semi and a smaller truck here. It will be a huge help - just amazing. We've also had another phone call from someone else bringing another semi-load of hay."

The evacuation centre at the showground is officially closed now, though there are still a few people staying there until it's safe to go home.

This morning, Monday, Shane and his team took the hay to Birdwood for it to be distributed to 17 families in the Hastings who need it. There is also some going to fire victims in Forbes River.

Slade Transport provided a truck to help tow a trailer full of hay.
