The boat rower and former club executive member died suddenly aged just 34 years on October 30, 2016.

A service was held at Rainbow Beach in his honour in November.

President Ian Ian Latham said the club wanted to recognise the contribution of club members for their many voluntary hours to ensure the safety of the beach-going public at Rainbow Beach.

"These members also contribute to the life and vitality of our club by competing in boats and other surf sports events," he said.

"On behalf of the members of the Wauchope Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club, I would like to thank Simon's parents Brian and Jo and the Stennett family for the gift of this lifeguard silhouette which is in memory of their son and much-loved friend, mate and member of our club.

"Simon was just 34 years of age when he passed away, quite suddenly."

Simon joined the club in 1998 and earned his bronze medallion the following year. He went on to hold many positions within the club, including club captain, patrol captain, boat captain and treasurer as well as being a patrolling member.

"He was a member of our reserve premiership boat crew and was also a member of some of our North Coast champion teams for many years," the club president said.

"He was the first to provide help and assistance, recruiting and ensuring retention of young rowers.

"Simon never shirked his responsibility in or out of the boat and he never complained about competing in big seas."

Club members remember Simon as a dedicated, honest and reliable mate, friend, crewman and club member, Latham said.

"He was often referred to as "Mr Reliable". His best attributes were his willingness to get the job done and a desire to help out across all club areas.

"Every time an event was on at the club, he would be doing something. He was just there and never let you down."

The club president also pointed out Simon's "great sense of humour" and his "wicked laugh".

The lifeguard silhouette was unveiled on November 16. It stands on the grassed area at the front of the clubhouse.
