The Rural Fire Service held get ready days in September but the local community decided in light of recent events a second get ready day would be beneficial.
Bonny Hills RFS captain Glen Dunn said he was pleased with how many people had come to visit them at Rainbow Beach.
"We have been planning today for a little while, but it is a very timely message, given the recent fires at Lake Cathie and right across the Mid North Coast," Mr Dunn said.
"It is terrible circumstances but people are a lot more aware of fire and the dangers of bushfires. People have wanted to get educated and so if we can help even a few people today it will be worth it."
The day was organised in collaboration with the Bonny Hills Progress Association.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council's bushfire management officer Melinda Losh was also on hand talking to the community.
She spoke to people about council's recently adopted Mid Coast Bushfire Risk Management Plan and some of the council's hazard reduction measures.
Peter Nash from the RFS (north) Mid Coast Community Engagement team said they had been inundated with people asking questions.
"Today has basically been an information day for the community to get educated about their bushfire survival plan," Mr Nash said.
"Since the recent fires people are a lot more aware of the dangers fires can present, even living near the coast.
"Everyone needs a bushfire survival plan and we have had lots of questions about how to create a plan and what are some things people can do to help protect themselves."
Mr Nash said small steps to ensuring your house is prepared can help firefighters when the worst comes.
"Making sure your grass is cut, your gutters are clean and your deck is clear are small things everyone can do," he said.
"You also need the bushfire plan so you know what to do if you need to evacuate. Knowing when to make smart decisions about your safety is important."
