It started out as a road trip that ended with a family from Pottsville sheltering from the bushfire threat on the floor of the Laurieton United Services Club on Friday night.

The France family - Matthew, Cassandra, William and Macey had stopped off in Dunbogan to visit their father and grandfather.

The Gold Coast family had attended the state PSSA athletics carnival where Macey was competing.

Mr France said the family had stopped off in Dunbogan for a short visit.

"Dad has a house at Dunbogan, so we stopped in to see him on the way home," Mr France said.

"We normally fly but we decided to make this year a road trip of it.

"But we ended up sleeping on the floor of the club."

Mr France said the people and club staff were awesome.

The family admitted the club was a bit bright and a bit loud but the club staff gave them every assistance.

"There was a lot of people here but the club staff found us a quiet area to sleep," Mr France said.

"They actually went out of their way to help us out.

"We had everything we needed, although a bed would have been good. But really, everything was fine."

The family decided to try and sleep as best they could before enjoying a breakfast at the club.

They were planning on navigating their way home later in the morning.
