Residents of College Rise in Thrumster feared for their homes last night, and today (Friday November 8), another blaze broke out, this time at Seminar Street.
People stood outside their homes in the new development west of Port Macquarie and watched as firefighters battled to stop the blaze spreading along trees on the edge of the estate.
Resident Mejo Varghese said they got worried at 3pm on Thursday, November 7, as trees caught fire at the end of Masters Street in College Rise. He said some people left, and others stayed and hoped for the best.
Then, this morning, fire broke out in trees nearby Seminar Street and took hold fiercely. Mejo is a nurse and was concerned about going to work while his wife and child stayed in the house.
"It seems like it's out of control and really I don't know what to do. Last night, everyone was here but now, a lot of people are at work. I'm just waiting for a message to evacuate," said Mejo.
His friend and neighbour Vishanth Vasumohan said he and his family got ready to leave yesterday, but didn't and said it was scary that there were embers in the air.
The bushfire was still out of control at 12.54pm on Friday, although it was still at advice level.
