As fires continue to burn around the Hastings and conditions worsen, fire chiefs are imploring people to do everything they can to be prepared.

The Rural Fire Service says everyone should monitor their website, www.rfs.gov.au/fire-information/fires-near-me and have the FiresNearMe app on your smartphone. If you need information about a specific fire, ring 1800 079 737, rather than your local fire station where you may be wasting valuable time and resources.

District Officer Stuart Robb from the Rural Fire Service says it's very important that members of the public know what to do if a fire impacts their property, and make sure they are well-prepared.

"Our crews are starting to fatigue, they've been out there for a couple of weeks. and regrettably, that's not going to change," he said, speaking at the Mid Coast Fire Control centre in Wauchope.

"It's only spring, unfortunately these are unique weather conditions. The lack of rain has made the fuels on the ground exceptionally dry and we're getting high temperatures now and strong winds which are impacting the fires on the landscape.

"The concern with a number of the fires burning on the western side of the highway, (Bril Bril, Gumscrub and Ballengarra) is that as the winds pick up and the temperatures increase, these fires will continue to run and there will be spotting ahead of the fire front, so that's a big risk," he said.

Firefighters from Illawarra Rural Fire Service say the conditions have been extremely dangerous, especially in houses at College Rise around St Joseph's Regional College on Thursday evening.

"It's one of those things where we just have to keep going. We are here to help and serve, and do the best we can. We are limited in numbers. We are big in heart," said Illawarra RFS Group Captain Chris Nolan.
