Port Macquarie-Hastings Council in partnership with MidWaste will run the free workshops to teach people how to reduce food waste, eat well and save money through better planning, shopping and storing of food.
MidWaste project officer Wendy Grant said the average NSW household throws away $77 worth of edible food every week.
"It's not only the food that is wasted, but also the energy, water and natural resources used to grow, package, transport and market that food," Ms Grant said.
"This fun and practical Food Smart workshop will teach you more about the impact of food waste and how making a few small changes at home through better planning, shopping and food storage can save money and reduce the amount of food you throw out.
"You will also be invited to join our free online Food Smart education program that gives you everything you need to start implementing what you learnt at the workshop at home."
Bookings are essential for the workshops at Port Macquarie Library.
Free refreshments will be provided.
The two-hour workshops begin at 9.30am on Friday, November 22 and 6pm on Friday, November 29.
People can register through the library's website or call 6581 8755.
The project is a state government Waste Less Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
