Sailors were treated to race five of the spring series in the morning followed by a barbecue lunch and the second club championship race in the afternoon.
A light south easterly was enough to keep the boats moving with a strong run out tide either being used or avoided in good tactical racing over a triangular course.
The tide had slowed down after the lunchtime barbecue, organised by Norm Broomhall and Paul Robertson. The sunny skies, beautiful breeze, and slacker tide made for a lovely afternoons' sailing.
Frank O'Rourke on Dino took the lead with the catamarans around the Spring Series Race Five course to win the morning race on yardstick ahead of Dion Carle on Scaramouche. Scaramouche took the win from Dino on handicap by six seconds.
The monohulls morning race was won on yardstick by Martina Holt in Spellbound, who had gotten away from the rest of the fleet.
Next in was Jeff Walsh in Firefly then Roger Shipton in Zazoo, closely followed by Terry Howard in Ratz, Steve Couch in Lazybuoy then Jane Cooper in Impetuous and lastly Mick Hodgson in Big Blue.
Impetuous took the handicap win, and was followed by Big Blue, Firefly, Spellbound, Lazybuoy, Zazoo and Ratz.
In the Second Club Championship, the catamarans race was won decisively by Frank O'Rourke on Dino on yardstick and handicap followed by Dion Carle on Scaramouche. They were pursued by Tony Kuhn on Stella after he was held up having a rare Sunday afternoon swim.
Martina Holt in Spellbound again led the monohull fleet on yardstick in the Second Club Championship followed by Firefly, Zazoo, Lazybuoy, Tony Walker who joined for the second race in Deep Purple, Impetuous, Rainbow and Big Blue.
Handicap results are currently the same as handicapping isn't established until the third race.
Next Sunday, November 3 is the second sprint series starting at noon, Jane Cooper is rostered on duty.
