Listed for only two mounts on the program, Jennings showed great skills after being trapped wide early by allowing Greenskeeper to take the front and withstanding the finishing run of Autumn Rain in the Schweppes Maiden Plate before saluting later on the program aboard Queens.
The performance in the Stephen Cook Memorial by Queens was outstanding with the daughter of Delago Deluxe responsible for a comprehensive victory after covering plenty of additional ground.
After a trackwork incident at Warwick Farm in June, Jennings sustained multiple fractures of the face including a fractured jaw and sinus together with a wrist injury resulting in a period of around three months on the sidelines.
The road to return has been long and arduous, but patience, determination and hard work resulted in a return to the saddle at Goulburn in September with a successful ride on Reoffender at Nowra following soon after.
After partnering Bobbing to a strong third placing behind Handle the Truth and Victorem in the recent Kosciuszko at Randwick before saluting last week at Nowra, Jennings displayed great confidence with the successful Port display.
Both gallopers were trained by Nathan Doyle, with the popular Newcastle mentor responsible for a perfect strike rate in a triumphant return to the north coast circuit.
Despite only having a small string of horses in work, Doyle has started the new season with gusto in providing four wins and nine minor placings from 28 starters.
Monica's Star commenced the day well for Taree trainer, Wayne Wilkes, but the early joy was short lived after the stable was rocked following an injury to promising gelding, Welter, later in the day.
Music Box Dancer placed a spear in the heart of punters when saluting at bolters odds in race two while Islamax was too strong for the Kehoe boys in the distance event.
Evil Cry landed some confident wagers for Graham Payne and jockey, Lee Magorrian, when taking out the Athol Platt Memorial while Tallis bounded away after travelling off the rails for the entire journey with an impressive victory in the final event.
An enthusiastic crowd enjoyed racing conducted under fine skies with the good four surface generally favouring horses making ground down the centre of the track.
The club is proud to honour the memory of three fine local racing identities in the shape of Athol Platt, Stephen Cook and Col Foster and greatly appreciate the continued support of De Bortoli Wines, Schweppes, The Great Northern Brewing Company and John Oxley Motors in the success of the day.
Racing continues at Port Macquarie on Thursday, November 14 with a seven-event program featuring the Hastings Handicap for open class gallopers over 1200 metres together with a strong support card.
The final fixture for the year is on Tuesday, November 26 with an eight race stand alone program before racing resumes on New Years Day with the traditional holiday card.
