But it seems they will have their work cut out for them for a while yet with fires continuing to erupt in the region.
Fire units have worked throughout the afternoon (October 27) to contain a blaze that has burned in bushland reserve fronting Crestwood Estate in Port Macquarie.
Vigilant helicopter waterbombing efforts all day ensured crews were able to stay on top of the fire that has burned across several hectares and keep it well away from homes.
The fire began on Saturday afternoon after a thunderstorm with lightning rolled across the area.
It is being controlled and will be monitored throughout the evening.
It comes after an horrendous weekend to the south of the Hastings as two massive fires swept across more than 5500 hectares near Forster-Tuncurry forcing evacuations.
Wauchope Rural Fire brigade along with Lake Cathie, Sancrox/Thrumster, North Shore, Long Flat, Beechwood and Camden Haven crews attended the fire.
Motorists can use the Waterfall Way as an alternative route.
There are currently 80 bush and grass fires burning across the state with 45 yet to be contained.
