More than 40 volunteer organisations were represented at the Volunteer Expo Port Macquarie Hastings at Panthers Port Macquarie on Tuesday, October 22.
Volunteer HQ coordinator Nuscha Van Nieuwkerk said volunteers were vital.
She said there were front line volunteers, as well as those behind the scenes, and communities would not be the same without them.
The annual event was a chance for organisations to speak with potential volunteers and showcase their services, as well as an opportunity for people to learn about volunteer roles and what best suited them.
The volunteer expo also featured a wellness corner.
"We find volunteers are beautiful people, and they give so much and make a difference to other people, yet often they put themselves last," Mrs Van Nieuwkerk said.
The wellness corner had a focus on looking after yourself.
Mrs Van Nieuwkerk said becoming a volunteer could also be a way for people to update their skills as a step to get back into the workforce and an avenue for people new to the area to get to know the community.
"Volunteering can also be part of a plan when you are making a difference for somebody else," she said.
CanTeen was among the organisations represented at the volunteer expo.
The non-profit organisation helps young people cope with cancer in their family.
CanTeen programs officer Jessica Skinner raised awareness about CanTeen and spoke with people about volunteer opportunities.
CanTeen relies on the assistance and support of volunteers to help deliver programs for young people.
"Volunteers are the backbone of CanTeen," Mrs Skinner said.
There are multiple volunteer opportunities from fundraising to medical positions on programs and group facilitator positions on programs.
CanTeen is also seeking a Port Macquarie-based regional support volunteer.
The regional support volunteer will assist CanTeen to deliver its service on the Mid-North Coast.
Volunteer HQ Port Macquarie Hastings organised the annual volunteer expo.
People interested in becoming a volunteer can go to the Hastings Neighbourhood Services website or call 6583 8044.
