Many people use crosswords, Sudoku or puzzles but singing is also known to assist memory. It is also further enhanced if it is combined with other activities.
Professional musician and long-time singing advocate Robyn Ryan OAM leads a group of Savvy Singers.
The group is about to kick start term four sessions and is looking for more members to join the fun.
"The singing group meets each Monday from noon for an hour where we learn lots of songs and have fun," she said.
"But more importantly, we also undertake cognitive therapy activities, body percussion and dancing.
"This group is open to all comers, there are no auditions or pre-requisites."
Ms Ryan also teaches piano and singing and conducts Hastings Choristers' two community choirs.
Term four sessions commence on Monday October 14 at Tennyson Woods Centre in St Agnes Village Port Macquarie right opposite U3A.
