The Mid North Coast Girls Surfriders Club is a community based club that provided a service for surfer girls on the Mid North Coast promoting girls surfing, fun, fitness, friendship and the focus on participation rather than cut-throat competition.
It is with the continued support from local businesses and community partnerships that permits organisers to host such a unique surfing contest format that encourages all girls and women regardless of their age or ability to compete in a non-threatening environment.
All competitors have the opportunity to surf two rounds in their respective division on Saturday which encourages participation and consistency throughout the two day event.
The results from both their heats are tallied together and the top six surfers in each division progress to a final on Sunday.
Currently there are 80 competitors entered across 10 divisions which include shortboards, longboards and mini mals.
In shortboards, they cater for beginner caddy (white water riders), 14 years and under, 16 years and under, 18 years and under, over 35's and open divisions.
In the longboards we cater for over 45, over 55 and open and under 18 years mini mal and over 18's mini mal.
Our most popular division this year is the open longboards.
Seventeen year old Bonny Hills' surfer Klaire Fallon will be representing the Mid North Coast Girls Surfriders in this division.
She recently won the Mid North Coast winter championship and will be up against some strong competition as the Surf Girls Australia have a strong contingent traveling up from Sydney's northern beaches to compete in this division.
Bonny Hills surfer Elly Muir has been absent for the past few years after relocating to Sydney, however she is returning this year to the classic and is hoping to make the final in the open shortboard.
This division will be hotly contested by Port Macquarie's Imojen Enfield at the ripe old age of 12 years, the experienced Cath Perry and Jen Arnold.
In the prestigious 16 years and under division we have two outstanding surfer girls punching above their weight.
Lola Styles and Avalon Enfield both from Port Macquarie are surfing against girls four years older than themselves.
Lola was recently training at the Hurley Performance Centre on the Gold Coast and competing in the NSW Surfing Grom search event in Kiama.
Avalon has also been busy recently competing in the NSW Surfing State Titles.
These little pocket rockets will be definitely the ones to watch at this year's surf classic and are surfing stars of the future.
Day one of competition starts at Rainbow Beach, Bonny Hills on October 12 from 6.30am.
Finals commence on Sunday 13 October at 6.30 am concluding at approximately midday followed by the presentation at the beach.
The heat draw will be on display on Friday 11 October at the Bonny Hills Beach Hotel from 6.30 pm.
