Co-founder and chair of Dyslexia Mid North Coast, Kelly King said this will be the fourth year the lighthouse will be red, to coincide with the international campaign Go Red For Dyslexia.
"It's fantastic that Tacking Point Lighthouse is a beacon for dyslexia awareness, placing Port Macquarie on the map for the month of October," said Mrs King.
"The Glasshouse Theatre will go red on October 15 and Town Square from October 15 to 19, thanks to the Port Macquarie Hastings Council.
"Ten percent of Australians have dyslexia, with up to twenty percent being on the dyslexic continuum.
"In every classroom there will be three to five students who struggle to learn to read, write and spell."
Residents can meet at the Tacking Point Surf Club at 5.30pm, before walking across the beach to the lighthouse for a photo opportunity at 7pm on October 25.
"The colour red represents the red pen which is often used to mark schoolwork. The event reclaims the colour to raise awareness," said Mrs King.
"It's a misconception that children with dyslexia learn to read differently. All children benefit from systematic synthetic phonics instruction in the early years but children with dyslexia will require more intensive instruction and repetition."
The event is supported by The Westport Club, The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise, Port Macquarie Hastings Council and InPhase Productions.
