Pycon Homes and Constructions, Joyce Constructions and AW Edwards were all honoured on September 13.

Pycon's home in River Park Road, Port Macquarie won the Custom Built Homes $600,000 to $800,000 category and the Best Use of Timber category.

Pycon Homes operations manager Troy Easton said there is a promising future in the Hastings for home construction.

"We have maintained a pretty busy presence, despite the industry bodies showing a slow down in construction activity across the state and probably across the nation," he said.

"I think Port Macquarie has held up pretty well. Certainly the job prospects here are as good as they have ever been.

"It feels like it's definitely a place to be in terms of getting out of the city for a lifestyle change.

"Previously it was a retirement option but as the economy has opened up over the last couple of years we are seeing more of a swing to young family options.

"In the next three to six months investors and people buying in will start to realise it's not as hard as it has been in a while."

Joyce Constructions won the Custom Built Home $500,000 to $600,000 category for a Red Hill, Cooperabung project.

Joyce Constructions owner and director Mitch Joyce said residential areas in Sovereign Hills and Emerald Downs were up-and-coming locations to watch around town.

"It has slowed down a little bit in the residential side and picked up in the commercial side," he said.

"Usually we are about 18 months behind Sydney, but because we are a holiday destination we don't feel it as much as other places.

"At the moment the market is steady and I'd say it will continue going down that path."

The Public Building over $7 million award and Public Building $3 million to $7 million awards were collected by AW Edwards for the Manning Hospital Redevelopment Main Works in Taree and an Ambulance Station in Wauchope.

AW Edwards project manager Craig McIlveen said functional and quality public buildings are being constructed to match a growing population.

"These buildings are a result of growing populations, they are both public buildings and there is a need for more services," he said.

"As our population continues to grow you'd like to think there will be similar projects in this region."

Mr McIlveen said the awards are not only recognition for the construction companies but also their contractors across the Hastings.
