I see the Hastings council still has done nothing to fix the deplorable state of the lake.

Those within council still have their heads in the sand, (excuse the pun).
One thing the marine environment of the lake would benefit from is the flushing of tidal movement of sea water.
Somebody get off their bum and dig a bloody great big channel to allow the normal tidal interaction that occurs twice a day.
I have heard the pathetic excuses for not trying this remedy, it is just helping nature redress the tragic state of the situation.
The lake would come alive, the overall health of the system would improve out of sight.
People may again actually be able to go there and swim, fish whatever. In its present state I wouldn't go near it.
Now the cost of doing this would not be excessive, the council still have to pay all their staff, even if they have to sit in the shed all week.
I'm sure council have machinery to do the job, so I can't see any logical reason why it doesn't get done.
Whoever has the say in this needs to perhaps get a dose of commonsense, for crying out loud don't give us the "we need to do an impact study" before we can even consider this option.
Just get in and fix the problem, you get paid the big dollars. Earn it.
