A trial coach service has commenced between Tamworth and Port Macquarie.
Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams said locals had embraced the trial service since its introduction in Mach 2018.
"Residents in regional communities often rely on coach services to remain connected to their friends, families and essential services - and this new service has really hit the mark," Mrs Williams said.
"Locals say the connection has made a great difference in helping them visit loved ones in Tamworth.
"It is exciting to see this successful trial transition to a timetabled service," Mrs Williams said.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the coach service had provided an easy and regular connection for locals to get away for a weekend break.
"While Tamworth is a growing region, it's great to experience a bit of sea change, and that's what has driven locals to get on board with this trial," Mr Anderson said.
"We know connecting regional towns provides a tourism boost, but it also provides new shopping and dining opportunities for visitors, which supports small businesses."
The service connects towns such as Kootingal, Moonbi, Bendemeer, Walcha, Long Flat, to Port Macquarie and Tamworth. It also connects to XPT services at Wauchope so customers can travel to North Coast communities.
The Tamworth to Port Macquarie trial was developed based on feedback collected through surveys and a series of community engagement sessions.
The service will continue to operate as a day return between Tamworth and Port Macquarie on Monday, with an afternoon departure on Friday and a return service on Sunday afternoon.
