Duncan Kirkland, acting principal at Hastings Secondary College Westport Campus, said it was great to see local primary and secondary schools working as a whole.

"Our college views NAPLAN preparation as only one part of a learning continuum that begins in kindergarten and continues throughout students' college years," Mr Kirkland said.

"The results are not indicative of our best students but rather, on average, students across the cohort have increased their literacy skills.

"We are proud to provide intensive support to students in need and have made a conscious plan to work on literacy skills across all the key areas of learning.

"This has ensured that our students are developing their literacy skills all the time.

"Our college is all about knowing every child and growing every child in providing the best education."

Principal of Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie Campus, Meaghan Cook said significant changes have been made in how the schools work together.

"More collaboration between faculties and between schools ensures all students have the opportunity to build on the success they have achieved as the campuses develop more consistent approaches to programs across the college," Ms Cook said.

The Hasting's director, educational leadership, Andrew Kuchling, has congratulated the College on its improvements across the literacy and numeracy areas tested in this year's NAPLAN.

"These results indicate significant achievement for the students in our care and demonstrate the commitment of our teachers in delivering exceptional learning in every classroom," Mr Kuchling said.
