It was a hotly contested day of competition at Rainbow Beach, Bonny Hills on a beautiful spring morning with a slight westerly wind making conditions offshore creating almost perfect surfing conditions.
The longboard divisions took to the water just after dawn where they enjoyed the three feet of rolling swell which was a pleasant surprise as the swell had been elusive all week.
By 11am the swell had risen to a consistent five feet which allowed our surfer girls to shine.
The championships continued with mini mal followed by the shortboard divisions.
Further up the beach on a separate bank our beginner caddy and beginner caddy optional divisions were battling it out to see who would be crowned the winter champions for 2019.
The surfer girls rode some excellent waves demonstrating some exceptional manoeuvres with wave scores as high as nine out of 10.
It is safe to say that the future of women's surfing on the Mid North Coast is alive and well and being nurtured within the Mid North Girls Surfriders Club.
On completion of our competition our winter champions were crowned.
It was fitting to present the winners with beautiful handcrafted beanies and trophies.
Congratulations to the other winter champions for 2019:
Beginner Girls Optional Caddy - Avalon Enfield
Intermediate Shortboard - Ally Knox
Open Shortboard - Loren Enfield
Intermediate Mini Mal - Chelsea Beecroft
Open Mini Mal - Halle Ford
Intermediate Longboard - Donna Cook
Open Longboard - Klaire Fallon
