NSW Fire and Rescue firefighters were called to reports of a building fire at Town Beach around 2am on Thursday, September 12.

Fire and Rescue NSW Port Macquarie station commander Gaven Muller said three appliances and 14 firefighters attended the blaze originating from a female amenities area.

"Fire crews arrived at Town Beach and found the female amenities well alight," he said.

"Fire crews worked to extinguish fire withing 30 minutes and prevented extension of the fire to the Marine Rescue base."

Mr Muller said the Marine Rescue radio base and kiosk have suffered smoke and heat damage, while the female amenities have been severely damaged.

"The cause and origin are being treated as suspicious," he said.

"We encourage anyone with information to report that to CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000 and contact Port Macquarie Police."

Salty Crew Kiosk owner Chris Harris said the cafe would be closed today, but will be open on September 13.

"There is only a small amount of damage to the kiosk, we'll clean up today and when the power comes back on we will reopen tomorrow," he said.

"It looks suspicious, there is nothing in that toilet that can explode like it did unless it's deliberately put there.

"I saw the inside of the toilets this morning and something was definitely put in there to explode.

"It's very disappointing because it's public property and everyone has ownership of it. Everyone loves this area and enjoys it down here, so it's very disappointing when someone destroys that.

"This is out of the ordinary. I've been down here everyday for three and half years, there's never been anything this major."
