Whether you are new to the sport or have been racing for years, Lister said being involved in a local triathlon club is a great way to socialise and meet with like-minded friends with similar interests.
"Racing with the PMTC is a great way of gaining experience from seasoned athletes in the tricks of the trade on triathlon racing while working out what gear and equipment to use," he said.
"You even learn techniques such as changing a tyre.
"You can always learn something by getting involved and becoming part of the family-friendly triathlon community."
Regardless of your experience or fitness, Lister said there is a race for everyone this season with varied distances and race formats to cater for all abilities.
The new triathlon calendar has over a dozen varied race styles from long and short distances, graded races, handicap races, aquathons and enduro format events with the season running from September to May.
Following on from an initiative introduced last season, the club also offers a social grade of participation.
This is available at each event for the casual non-competitive members, and to encourage newcomers to come and see what it's all about.
Social racers can choose to participate to the extent they're comfortable with and perhaps skip the swim-leg or the run-leg that week if they feel like.
"It's a great way to ease into the sport of triathlon without the competitive side to racing," Lister said.
This year the club is also introducing a new online group training portal with membership so members can interact between races and arrange training meetups.
It is hoped it will help encourage newcomers that may not already have training buddies if they are unfamiliar with the sport or the Hastings area.
This will also be a great way to organise travel plans for attending interclub races together throughout the season, where members represent Port Macquarie and earn points for the club in the Northcoast Interclub Triathlon Series.
