The youth mental health service is searching for a general practitioner to strengthen the medical facilities it can provide on site.
The Short Street facility aims to takes a holistic approach to caring for young people tries to incorporate services to address physical, mental, social and substance abuse issues.
Jenny Sinclair, NSW operations manager for EACH NSW said a general practitioner and additional allied health professionals were key to expanding services.
"Port Macquarie has had a headspace centre for nearly six years now and we are proud to be known for providing assistance and help to young people," Mrs Sinclair said.
"The services we can provide include helping young people work through life, health and wellbeing issues as well as alcohol and other drugs and finding that right work study balance."
Mrs Sinclair said that despite all the good work currently being done, a GP would add another level of service the centre currently can't provide on site.
She said a GP could provide physical examinations as a starting point to potentially uncovering mental health issues.
"Having a GP based at our office would mean we could look at physical health issues in a new way," she said.
"Currently, if necessary we help young people with referrals to GPs but having one on site would eliminate the need for that.
"Also having a GP means we could also look at adding other specialised allied health professionals to our team.
"A GP would provide the core for expanding the medical services we could provide.
"Physical health problem may stem from deeper issues such as depression or anxiety and being able to help in those circumstances would benefit our young people greatly."
