A man, who became stuck in dense vegetation on a riverbank after fleeing from police, will appear in Port Macquarie court today (August 20) on multiple charges.

At 2.40pm on Monday, August 19 officers from Mid North Coast Police District stopped a Holden Astra on Lord Street, Kempsey, and sighted a man in the front passenger seat.
Police will allege the man was in breach of an AVO.
When officers placed the man under arrest, he allegedly swung his arm and struck a male Senior Constable in the ear with the handcuff and pushed a male Sergeant, before fleeing the scene on foot.
A perimeter was established to locate him and at about 5pm, the man was found by the Dog Unit down a steep embankment near the Macleay River, where he was stuck in dense vegetation.
The 35-year-old Taree man was arrested and freed from the riverbank before being taken to Kempsey Police Station and charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO, resist arrest, assault police, escape police custody and enter inclosed land without lawful excuse.
He was refused bail. The Senior Constable was treated for minor cuts and abrasions.
