Byabarra, King Creek, Wauchope and Comboyne firefighters are being kept busy battling a 838 hectare fire at Toms Creek Road, Ellenborough since Friday, August 16.
The fire is within containment lines and back burning has been undertaken, according to NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) Mid North Coast district inspector Max Ryan.
"The fire is burning in very rugged terrain and we are monitoring its movement to protect properties," said Mr Ryan.
"The fire is burning in pockets inside containment lines and we will be reviewing containment in coming days.
"At the moment there are a total of 18 across the district. Four or five of those require significant resources."
A Very High Fire Danger Rating is in effect on August 19 for areas of the North Coast, New England, North Slopes and Far North Coast.
All fire permits are suspended and residents are being reminded to review their bush fire survival plans, keep themselves informed about conditions and be ready to act if necessary.
Some members of the public are failing to heed the dangerous conditions, as Bonny Hills Rural Fire Brigade reported a number of illegal campfires over the weekend.
"It's certainly problematic if people are going to light a fire today, it defies common sense," said Inspector Ryan.
"We are pursuing the cause and origin of fires, initiating legal action where appropriate."
