She is taking time to travel and relax after running the Watonga Street office at Lighthouse Beach Shopping Village since 1990.
Mrs Humphreys originally took over management of the then hardware store and post office, with late husband Stephen, after the pair moved from Inverell.
"Stephen was an area manager for Australia Post at the time and we bought it to make it a licensed post office," she said.
"I stayed home with the boys (sons David and Michael) for 11 or 12 years. When I did come out to work the boys would come out to help as well.
"Later it was hard work and without support I think I would have gone under."
Mrs Humphreys said she has seen some interesting parcels and letters over the years.
"One day I was serving a girl and behind her was somebody she had worked with in Sydney 20 years before. That was quite extraordinary," she said.
"There was also a parcel which would make a gobble gobble gobble sound every time you'd move it. Someone was sending a toy turkey.
"Trends changed over the years because parcels are a big thing now with online ordering. We still sell a few postcards as well but nowhere near as many as we used to."
The post office created national headlines in February 2018 when a High Court challenge was issued against Lyne MP Dr David Gillespie.
The challenge assessed whether the outlet in the Lighthouse area could be an indirect financial interest in the Commonwealth because Dr Gillespie was the owner of the shopping complex.
"I felt like I was going to bring down the government. The strongest woman in Port Macquarie," said Mrs Humphreys.
"He owned the buildings but he wasn't doing anything wrong. I was just paying him rent."
Mrs Humphreys was also featured in the news in 2015 after her cat, Boof was found in the roof of Expressway Spares Wauchope. He had been missing for eight years.
She said she will miss chatting to all her regular customers the most.
"You just meet different people every day. They may have good stories or sad stories but it's good just talking to them," said Mrs Humphreys.
"I'm just going to relax and look after myself for a while.
"A girlfriend and I are thinking of taking a trip from Sydney to Cairns via ship. I might go overseas for a month to see friends in Vegas and Louisiana."
