It will be held as part of National Science Week at Charles Sturt University's Port Macquarie campus on Sunday, August 11.
The GDOS2019 event will feature local leaders in STEM.
Emily Climpson, who will be running a Digital Detectives and Cyber Spies masterclass, will provide a hands-on learning experience demonstrating how we all leave a digital trail as we navigate through online environments. Emily is currently undertaking her PhD at CSU Port Macquarie campus.
She is studying all aspects of IT, from app development to digital forensics and has a keen interest in deep fake, online identities, catfishing, data mining and how it all follows you through the online world.
Another local leader in STEM, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Environmental Lab supervising scientist in chemistry, is Grace Connor.
She will lead a masterclass on electroplating and colourimetric analysis where the girls will be able to use electroplating to change the surface of an object. Grace will also demonstrate how chemists determine the amount of nitrate is in water as part of their water testing process.
Local high school science teacher, ambassador for Ocean Exploration and Guinness World Record Holder, Lloyd Godson, will be aiming to break the world record during his masterclass. They will be attempting the fastest assembly of a citrus fruit battery and longest slime without breaking.
Managing director of Eureka Explorers and organiser of GDOS2019, Petriea Skitek, aims to inspire and encourage girls aged 10-14 years to pursue education and careers in STEM related areas.
"In partnering with Dr Kylie Press and CSU, we wanted to bring leaders in STEM from all over NSW and interstate, as well as highlighting our local champions," she said.
"This will give regional girls an opportunity to engage with and learn from people who have built interesting careers across a broad range of industries."
