Jacob Cronje from weatherzone says a series of cold fronts crossing the south east corner of the country are responsible for the drop in temperatures and the windy conditions we are about to experience.
"It is not unusual for this time of the year, but it is certainly the coldest spell we have experienced," he said.
"You could see some rain - only around one to two millimetres - for Port Macquarie but increasing for inland and on more elevated areas.
"There will also be an increase in seas of up to two to three metres with a south westerly swell likely on Friday and Saturday."
The Bureau of Meteorology says maximum temperatures for the Port Macquarie-Hastings will begin to fall from Friday.
There is also a strong wind warning for the Macquarie coast effective Thursday August 8 and Friday August 9.
Winds are expected to peak at around 40 kilometres per hour over three days starting on Friday.
The coldest morning is likely to be Sunday - dipping to 3 degrees - with maximum temperatures in the high teens on the weekend and into Monday.
Friday afternoon is expected to be reasonably sunny after some clearing showers.
Winds will turn from the north to northwesterly around midday before becoming lighter in the evening.
Friday's minimum temperature is 5 degrees before topping 22 degrees.
It should be sunny with light winds becoming northwesterly up to 25kmh in the morning before tending westerly to 40kmh in the middle of the day.
The weekend is expected to be cold and windy.
Saturday and Sunday will be partly cloudy with westerly winds between 25 and 40kmh. Saturday's temperature range is likely to be 5 to 19 degrees while Sunday's is 3 to 18 degrees.
If you are looking for a nice sunny return-to-work Monday, forget it.
It should be partly cloudy with winds from the west to southwesterly between 20 to 30kmh.
The temperature range is 4 to 19 degrees.
There is also the slight chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The bureau's strong wind warning on Thursday includes, Sydney closed waters, Byron Coast, Coffs Coast, Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast, Sydney Coast, Illawarra Coast and Eden Coast.
For Friday a gale warning has been issued for the Hunter coast, Sydney coast, Illawarra coast, Batemans coast and Eden coast.
A wind warning covers the Macquarie coast, Sydney closed waters, Byron Coast and Coffs Coast.
