About 9.35pm, Sunday, August 4, two men entered the licensed premises on Gordon Street.
Finnian's Tavern manager Corey Baker said the incident was nothing short of terrifying.
"It is pretty intimidating when you have someone with a gun and machete forcefully demanding you - all you can do is just do what they ask," Mr Baker said.
Mr Baker was with another manager and staff member when the pair entered the popular pub and demanded they open the safe.
"We're still talking to the police. Counselling services have been offered to all staff involved over the next couple of days."
Police have been told the pair, dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered, threatened three staff members and demanded cash.
The men then stole a set of car keys and a wallet and fled the scene in a silver Subaru Liberty with NSW registration BY70NV. No-one was injured during the incident.
Officers from Mid North Coast Police District arrived a short time later and established a crime scene.
Police are urging anyone who may have dashcam vision from around the area at the time to come forward.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
