Beach goers, rock fishermen and boaties are being encouraged to reschedule their planned outings as Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour and Hunter coastlines experience waves of two to three metres.
Weatherzone senior meteorologist Jacob Cronje said the surf and swell conditions are the result of a rain bearing system.
"As a result of the southerly push there will be wave heights of 1.5 to two metres, increasing to two to three metres offshore," he said.
"That range will increase in the afternoon (July 31) before easing overnight.
"By tomorrow (August 1) surf conditions are expected to ease with winds slackening, although waves will still be elevated."
Residents are being encouraged by the BoM to consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
It is also recommended to avoid fishing on coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and delay boat voyages crossing shallow water and ocean bars.
