The community can look forward to the continuation of Coastal Walk improvements in Port Macquarie with Charlie Uptin Walk the next stretch to receive attention.

The project is broken into two parts.

September will mark the start of work, from near Salty Crew Kiosk heading south, which is due for completion by Christmas.

The second part of the project, closer to Oxley Beach, will begin in early 2020 with the work expected for completion by the end of June 2020.

Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams said the $1.7 million Coastal Walk upgrade had made a vast improvement to amenities around Westport Park and she was eager to see stage two take shape.

"It is important we continue to work as much as we possibly can to make these places accessible to everybody," she said.

Mrs Williams said the Coastal Walk was popular with tourists and locals but they needed to make it even better.

That is where the upgrade project comes in.

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has allocated $997,000 for Coastal Walk upgrades with the state government contributing $765,000 in Restart NSW funding.

Mayor Peta Pinson said Charlie Uptin Walk was a real hub of the Coastal Walk, whether you took the whole nine kilometre walk or just went for a leisurely stroll.

She said the upgrade would give the section a whole new feel.

The project will include a wider walking trail, better beach access with replaced stairs, seats, new viewing platform, signs and regeneration of native vegetation to protect against erosion.

Alternative pedestrian access will be signposted during the construction.

The Coastal Walk is one of the most popular tourist spots in Port Macquarie.

Sections three and four of the Coastal Walk upgrade - The Doctor's Walk and Kenny Walk - are part of the overall improvement program.
