The figures are available on the Bureau of Meteorology website.

Port Macquarie resident Doug Emanuel alerted the Port News to the statistic.

From January to July 2019 the cumulative rainfall total is currently sitting at just 374mm. The average total rainfall for for this period is usually 988mm.

This makes it the driest seven month January to July period since records began in 1841.

The last driest seven month period was in 2014 when just 447mm of rain fell. In 1902 just 480mm of rain fell.

The driest July experienced at Port Macquarie Airport was in 2002 when just 1.2mm of rain fell for the month.

While there won't be enough to make a difference, there is a chance that some showers could fall on the coastal fringe on Monday night or Tuesday.

Weatherzone meteorologist Craig McIntosh confirmed the figures for the January to July 2019 period.

"For the remainder of July, we could see a wet end to the month," he said.

"We are forecasting a trough and a cold front moving through the area and it looks like some heavier falls will be off the coast.

"Port Macquarie could get somewhere between 5mm and 20mm overnight on Monday and or into Tuesday morning.

"There are a couple of (rain) models that have confirmed the falls."

Mr McIntosh said southerly winds would also maintain showers in the wake of the cold front moving through the area.

Behind that change, temperatures will likely dip below the 20 degree mark on Wednesday.

"I will stress that the majority of the rain appears likely to fall on the very coastal fringe.

"For areas inland - even at Wauchope - the possibility of rain is much less," he said.
