Local residents, visitors and school children will be rolling up their sleeves and getting dirty as they plant ground cover for the garden on Stewart Street from 8.30am to noon on Sunday, July 28.
Around 45 participants usually plant, water, mulch and weed on the day each year to preserve the importance of the environment for future generations.
Site organiser Glenys Pearson said participants will be planting Dianella and Carex grass species among others for ground cover.
"We're looking for the young ones to come along and get their fingers dirty," she said.
"Hopefully they become interested in gardening and learn about the endemic species they can plant in their own garden at home.
"They can learn to identify them and show them to their parents.
"It's all about engendering a love of the natural environment."
Gloves, tools and equipment will be provided on the day. There will also be a steam weeding demonstration from 10am and morning tea available.
Friends of Mrs York's Garden are in the running for the My Community Project in the Port Macquarie electorate.
Members of the public can vote for further developments to the garden until August 15.
The group is proposing to improve access and amenity by adding stairs to a new shelter, a timber viewing platform, pathway widening and track upgrades.
