A ministerial meeting has been confirmed after the orbital road project took another turn.
Mayor Peta Pinson wrote to Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams on Thursday, July 18 to seek a meeting with Local Government Minister Shelley Hancock to discuss concerns over the councillors' decision making about the proposed orbital road.
Mrs Williams has confirmed that meeting will go ahead on Wednesday, July 31 during which the mayor will raise other concerns as well. Cr Pinson has not elaborated on what those other concerns are.
"I'm really pleased that the minister is going to take the time to meet with me over the concerns that I do have," Cr Pinson said.
"This meeting is not for me. The meeting is on behalf of the community."
The council will prepare a strategic business case for all orbital road options after a rescission motion over the proposed orbital road failed to get across the line.
Deputy mayor Lisa Intemann, at the request of other councillors, has also asked Mrs Williams to invite the Local Government Minister to meet with a delegation of councillors at her office so she has a complete picture of the council's performance.
Meanwhile, Mrs Williams has confirmed she has organised a number of meetings for Port Macquarie-Hastings Council in Parliament next week with government ministers.
"I have arranged meetings for the mayor Peta Pinson and general manager Craig Swift-McNair to meet with the Minister for Regional Roads, Paul Toole MP to discuss local road upgrades including the duplication of Ocean Drive as well as council's proposed orbital road," she said.
"I regularly extend invitations to all ministers to visit the electorate to better understand local issues and I look forward to welcoming them in the months ahead," she said.
They are also meeting Environment Minister Matt Kean about the Coastal SEPP (State Environmental Planning Policy).
