The warning predicts that surf and swell conditions will be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming for July 16 and 17 along the Macquarie and Hunter coast.
A NSW Police spokesperson said people should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
"Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf," they said.
"Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing or delaying their voyage.
"Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and wear a lifejacket.
"Boaters should remember to log on with their local Marine Rescue radio base, via VHF Radio or the Marine Rescue APP, and consider their safety management plan."
An additional severe weather warning for damaging surf is being called for at Lord Howe Island.
The rough surf is being generated by a series of cold fronts moving across the southern Tasman Sea, producing wave heights in excess of five metres on Tuesday morning, July 16.
There is a strong wind warning for Coffs Coast, Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast, Sydney Coast, Illawarra Coast and Batemans Coast.
According to the BoM weather forecast Port Macquarie can expect a run of sunny days around 22 degrees from Tuesday to Sunday, with a mostly sunny day on Monday.
