In a five-goal thriller, the local side gave coach Dom Ashe a few more grey hairs after they let a two-goal lead slip in the final five minutes.

Ultimately it was Goodman's strike in the first half of golden goal that secured the 3-2 victory over Coffs Harbour High School, but it wasn't without a few nervous moments along the way.

Christian Mirindi's penalty and Gab Dun-Mosqera's second-half strike cancelled out Evan Lipovac and Taye Power O'Toole's neat finishes to set up a grandstand finish.

Goodman latched onto a clever pass from teammate Cayden Briscoe before he calmly slotted his finish past Coffs Harbour goalkeeper Will Goodwin to win the game.

"(I had) heaps of thoughts passing through my head, (but mainly to) get it in the goal," Goodman said.

He said his team remained calm despite the pressure of playing extra time when they appeared to have the match well in their grasp when leading 2-0.

"We knew we could win it with our skill and that's what kept our heads up," he said.

The visitors were wasteful in front of goal, spurning at least half a dozen clear-cut chances while they also had one goal controversially disallowed for offside.

Another shot was on target before it was cleared off the line in a frantic second half after scores were locked at 0-all at the break.

"I thought we had the game done and dusted at 2-0 but (Coffs) came back really strong and really hard and made us have to work to get the victory in the end," coach Ashe said.

"To get the first goal was great, to get the second goal was great, but to collapse in the last five minutes and let in two was a grey hair moment.

"Two-all was a fair decision come the end of the game, golden goal was pretty tough too."

The victory allowed MacKillop to progress at least one step further than they did last year when John Paul College eliminated them 3-1 in the corresponding match.

"To beat another Coffs Harbour team was good, but we'll wait and see what happens next," Ashe said.

Coffs Harbour coach Matt Valentine lamented their killer instinct in front of goal.

"We weren't clinical enough with our chances really," he said.

"We needed to finish a few more (in the first half) and we had them.

"It was great they created them, but it would have been nice to get a couple of early ones and get on the board.

"Obviously disappointed; it was a great game but to go down in golden point like that is pretty rough."
