So it was why coach Darrell Pascoe was thrilled with Dan Gardner and Vaughan Lickley's performances as Saints secured all three points in a 2-0 win over Taree Wildcats on Saturday.
Gardner and Lickley both scored from headers in the second half as Saints consolidated second spot on the ladder and kept Port United just in sight on the horizon.
"We haven't scored a lot from there (set pieces) so it was good to get a couple," Pascoe said.
"Any time you travel away and come home with a win is a good result."
Saints did everything but find the back of the net in a frustrating opening half that saw the sides head to the sheds locked at 0-all.
"We created a lot of opportunities in the first half, but not a lot went into the net," Pascoe said.
"We could easily have become frustrated and ended up with a draw or a loss so it was pleasing the boys stuck at it."
The coach said his side continued to improve by the week.
"They're showing more maturity as the season goes on and that's good to see."
