The Port Macquarie Model Expo is on July 13 and 14 at Panthers Port Macquarie.
More than 100 tables will display scale models from warships to planes, working railways, sailing ships and sci-fi figures.
The auditorium stage will be filled with large radio-controlled flying models.
Three hobby supply vendors will also be in attendance.
Port Macquarie Model Expo spokesman David Connolly said the hobby required a lot of skill.
"I think the detail that is expressed in some of the models is really quite amazing," he said.
"It really is looking at how you can represent a small version of the real thing in such fine detail.
"It's a joy to behold."
Mr Connolly said the model expo was unique on the Mid-North Coast.
He said attending the expo would be a good experience for kids as well as adults.
A scale model is a representation of a real object.
"There's a big interest in warships, cars and trucks, and also figures," Mr Connolly said.
A group of scale model enthusiasts runs the annual event.
Trophies will be awarded for best in show, best table display, best ship model, people's choice and in a junior category.
Mr Connolly, who has been to model shows around the world, said young people were definitely picking up scale model skills.
Entry to the model expo is by gold coin donation with proceeds going to the Mid North Coast Maritime Museum.
The event runs from 9am to 5pm on July 13 and 9am to 4pm on July 14.
