The Newcastle boys shredded surf and made a break for the win in the final day at Lighthouse Beach on June 10, after two days of mixing it up against seven other teams.

At the end of the day, the Novocastrians held on for victory by the barest of margins.

They amassed 101 points over the three-days, four points clear of defending champions and hosts Port Macquarie on 97 with seasoned veterans, the Port Old Boys rounding out the top three on 93 points.

Newcastle team manager Johnny Cruickshank said the change of venue from Town Beach to Lighthouse Beach on the second and third days were welcomed by his team.

"It was close in the final day and we had a tight competition with Port Macquarie's team," he said.

"It's always a good battle between us and it's good to get over them this year.

"Lighthouse Beach suits us a bit more because we have a lot of guys who are free surfers; they like the waves bigger and a bit more solid.

"Everything went really well and we had an absolute ball."

Cruickshank, a former Australian Bodyboard Tour Champion, said he'd attended the event for over 22 years and would be back again next year.

"Massive thank you to Clayton Pickworth for putting this event together, without him it wouldn't happen," he said.

"I think he's revived it amazingly and it's better than it has ever been.

"It's just awesome to hang out with mates that love to get in the water and just catch waves with them.

"Undoubtedly we will be back next year."
