David Allen Esling, who was aged 80 years at the time of the alleged crime on April 3 and April 4, appeared before Magistrate R Hudson.
Bail was formerly refused. No plea was entered.
The Resort Road resident is alleged to have attempted to murder his wife betwen 4pm on April 3 and 9.22am on April 4, 2019.
Esling is next listed to appear in Port Macquarie Local Court on June 20.
