Her enthusiasm has secured a spot on the eXXpedition round the world, all female sailing and scientific research voyage.
Meegan attended Kendall Public School and Camden Haven High School. She currently lives in Port Macquarie with her family and is an active member of the Coastal Warriors Mid North Coast group.
The voyage runs over two years where 300 women manage 30 legs around the world to look into the current plastic pollution crisis.
Meegan said the women want to gain knowledge on how pollution is taking its toll on marine life, the oceans and surrounding communities.
Meegan has been accepted on the 10th leg, which runs in the South Pacific from Rarotonga, Cook Islands to Vava'u, Tonga.
"During those 10 days I will be at sea on the Pacific Ocean, our backyard, with 13 other passionate women from around the world," Meegan said.
"I will be part of the research and data collection team on board the yacht and then on the team that plans for solutions.
"I will be contributing to solution based critical thinking to help preserve our oceans."
Meegan wants to share her knowledge with the young generation and wider community.
To help raise money towards Meegan's voyage, a fundraising dinner is on at Bandwagon Cafe in Port Macquarie on Saturday, June 8. The event coincides with World Oceans Day.
The event is on from 5.30pm until 8.30pm and tickets are $65 per person. For more information or to book a ticket please visit the Event Brite website and search for Meegs' Ocean Expedition.
