The appeal is the Salvos' signature fundraising drive which helps fund their network of social and community services supporting the most vulnerable in our community.
Salvation Army Corps Officer Heather Unicomb commended the community for their generosity.
"The community of Port Macquarie is extremely generous and the areas of Port Macquarie we were able to cover went well," Ms Unicomb said.
"We didn't get to every house, we needed more volunteers."
Ms Unicomb said 80 people from the community volunteered their time to help with the doorknock.
"It was such a lovely day to be walking around the streets," she said.
"Students from the local schools were surprised at the generosity of the people when they knocked on doors.
"I loved seeing families doorknocking together."
The Port Macquarie business community raised just over $15,000 at the Red Shield Appeal business breakfast at Westport Club on May 16.
The community can still donate to the Red Shield Appeal by going into the Salvation Army Port Macquarie office at 110 Lord Street or online.
