SURFERS were treated to near-perfect three to five feet of swell at Rainbow Beach for the annual Bird Rock Memorial Surf Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
Surfers young and old, professional and semi-professional along with those who had recently retired took to the water at the weekend.
Sunday was finals day with both long and shortboard divisions held throughout the day.
The surfing tournament started in 1981, entered its 39th year and continues to celebrate the lives of all boardriders passed in the Hastings region, according to committee member Geoff Branch.
There is a push for next year's 40th edition to be run by Surfing NSW and be a part of the pro circuit.
